The inception of the Insurance Institute of St. Lucia can be traced back to 1977 when Mr. Geoffrey Jennings-Clark, FCII, then manager of the insurance division at Minvielle & Chastanet Limited, first proposed the concept of establishing a dedicated institute for insurance professionals in St. Lucia. This visionary idea aimed to cater to both life and general insurance sectors, fostering professional development and industry cohesion.

The journey from conception to realization spanned approximately seven years, during which time a cadre of industry professionals contributed their expertise and efforts to bring the institute to fruition. The initial driving force behind this endeavor included Claudius Francis, Angus Isaac, Rhonda Noel, and Geoffrey Jennings-Clark. As the project gained momentum, additional support and valuable contributions were provided by Rudolph Springer, Roderick Clarke, and Joseph Maxwell.

In the preliminary stages, a series of strategic meetings were convened, bringing together employees from various segments of the insurance industry. These gatherings served a dual purpose: to raise awareness about the potential advantages of such an institute and to elucidate the myriad benefits it would offer to individuals, both in terms of academic growth and professional networking.

As the initiative progressed, a formal process was established to gauge interest and commitment from potential members. Insurance professionals were invited to complete membership application forms, signaling their intent to join the proposed institute. This step was crucial in assessing the viability and support for the organization within the industry.

Subsequently, a draft constitution was meticulously crafted and presented to the prospective membership for review and feedback. This document underwent several iterations, with proposed amendments being carefully considered and incorporated to ensure it adequately addressed the needs and expectations of the future members. Once a consensus was reached on the constitution’s principles, the stage was set for the official launch of the St. Lucia Insurance Institute.

The culmination of these efforts came to fruition in 1984 when the St. Lucia Insurance Institute was formally inaugurated at the prestigious Vigie Beach Hotel. This milestone event marked the beginning of a new era for insurance professionals in St. Lucia, providing a dedicated platform for education, networking, and industry advancement.

In recognition of its growing influence and to better reflect its evolving role, the organization underwent a significant transformation in 2010. It was officially incorporated and rebranded as the Insurance Institute of St. Lucia Inc., solidifying its status as a legal entity and reinforcing its commitment to professional excellence.

Since its establishment, the Insurance Institute of St. Lucia Inc. has experienced remarkable growth and has consistently demonstrated its value to the industry. Through unwavering dedication to its mission and a focus on continuous improvement, the institute has distinguished itself as the most active and influential insurance institute in the Caribbean region.
